End Game or Just a Game?
Apr. 6th, 2006 11:52 amThe “end of life as we know it” scenarios always seem to be a bit much based on my limited experiences with life.
I’m reminded of the California energy “crisis” that was mitigated in a couple of months by conservation efforts. I’m reminded that Europeans use about half the amount of electricity as Americans and are at least half as civilized without any reports of dark freezings.
I’m particularly reminded of Amory Lovin’s energy analysis from 1976 that was published in “Foreign Affairs”. The charts on that are shown on one of the following links.
Are there things to be concerned about and pay attention to? Sure.
Peak oil concerns wouldn’t be at the top of the list however. If the independent atmospheric scientist James Lovelock is right, the potential positive feedback mechanism of global warming certainly would be.
Lovins has been more right than wrong in his predictions. I hope Lovelock is way off beam with his analysis, as he is with nuclear power to mitigate climate change, but fear he may not be.
