Taxes Schmaxes
Apr. 10th, 2006 11:25 pmYes, it’s that time of the year again. I’m still sorting my paperwork for the accountant and am thinking that THIS time I’m really going to miss the deadline and will have to do the extension deal.
I suppose that’s not a major failing in life but it is a bit annoying to me. After the tax disaster last year, I made a vow not to repeat that and here I am again.
Sure the move didn’t help things out. Still lots of paperwork scrambled in the process, but still. Well, I am doing better at using my computer based tools to keep track of the various accounts and we’ll see if that works out for the current year.
Tried out an old (2004) copy of both Money and Quicken and am finally settling in to Money because it doesn’t do weird things like hang for a couple minutes while it’s thinking things over. Or worse.
Having either misplaced or lost my question bank for Test #5 in my wind energy class isn’t helping the process along either. Might have to take a day off work and get things sorted out. Can’t really do that tomorrow as the office manager is out of the office too and that makes things a bit thin around there.
When it rains, it pours.
So when things get bad, sometimes I make things even worse by avoiding the problem on stretches (like right now). Yesterday I did the same thing by going to watch “V for Vendetta”. I’d read many positive reviews of it and it seemed like a topic I’d be interested in and so off I went on my own for a brief respite from reality.
The film was a real thought provoker what with the current fear of terror (and counter-terror) these days. I liked the somewhat subtle references to the anarchist Emma Goldman (although the dancing revolutionary quote is evidently in question). Also liked what seemed to be an illusion to the ghosts scene in the famous but little seen French anti-war film “J’accuse”.
The acting was very good for the most part and the twist in the middle of the story caught me completely by surprise. Double clicks for that.
Today’s diversion before hunkering down to work on wind pumper and wind system siting questions was to go to the local video show to troll for bargain DVDs. Ran across a nice one of Gort and associates for $9.99 that I couldn’t resist. Someone should be “Klatu barada nicto”ing me.
Bad coffee and sleepy hours are waiting.
