Women Men Sex City
May. 31st, 2008 08:34 amFandom comes to "Sex in the City". I have to admit to this show being a guilty pleasure. I also like "Project Runway" for that matter. Maybe I missed my calling.
Okay friends list, how many of you think this is a correct analysis?
The "Sex and the City" Movie Becomes a Girl's Night Out - LA Times - 31 May 08
"'The smart men use the show to figure out what's going on in the minds of women. And then they're better with women,' Gazazyan said.
'SATC': We Watched the Movie, But We Really Watched the Clothes - The Cut: New York Magazine's Fashion Blog - 30 May 08
"Don’t ask how we ended up rolling into a 10:10 a.m. screening of Sex and the City, in a theater crammed to the gills with Ladies Who Lunch tucking designer shades into knockoff handbags and gossiping during the film about whether Candace Bergen looks bloated. Just know that sometimes the prospect of a big-screen buffet of expensive clothes, big hair, and killer stilettos is hard to resist. Fear not, we’ll warn you before we dish plot spoilers, but we don’t think it will ruin anything to tell you that the heart of the film does and always will belong to one Mr. above all others: Mr. Manolo Blahnik."
From the Wikipedia entry on Manolo Blahnik. Thorstein Veblen is smiling in his grave.
"The television show Sex and the City mentioned his shoes so often that it helped cement his place in pop culture, and he was said to be the 'fifth star' of the show after the show's four lead actresses. The Sex and the City episode titled 'A Vogue Idea' centers around the black patent mary jane style that Manolo Blahnik calls 'Campari'. The price of the Campari shoe as of the year 2007 is $555 at Neiman Marcus which has been raised from its $495 price of 2002-03."
Frankly, I've always thought those needle nosed items were direct decendents of the Wicked Witch of the West shoes. You make the call.
