Gmail, Swing Sets and Earth Day
Apr. 20th, 2008 08:18 amI've been doing the webview routine for Gmail for years now after abandoning POP3 clients. Found out a while back that IMAP was also doable via Gmail. More recently found that calendars can be synced and that LDAP for syncing addresses is also doable. [Re: LDAP] Maybe even sync with the old Palm. Looks like it might be a syncing itch I can't not scratch.
Oh the wonders we enjoy in these modern times.
But not today. Today is Earth Day in Lincoln and I'm taking my electric bike down for a combination celebration and propaganda run. This assumes the still occasionally intermittent wiring hangs in there. The festival is conveniently located right off my main bike path a couple miles down the road. Supposed to be a near perfect day which is rare in these parts.
Am one worn out doggie after doing a combo e-bike run to return my initial Redbox DVD rental and to a visit some small people of my acquaintance.
Pretty simple on the Redbox return. Just stick the thing in the right direction into a slot and it reads a special barcode on the DVD and gives you an on-screen thank you. If you provide an e-mail they send you confirmations of interactions and receipts. Very nice. Another inexpensive entertainment addiction.
The ride out to the small persons was largely uneventful. The biggest challenge was finding proper sidewalks to ride on in that particular part of newish suburbia. Pedestrians got the finger in some sections of those developments. Not a biggie, just annoying.
The e-bike continues to flatten hills with the twist of a throttle. It seems to use amazingly little electricity to do this. At least that's the impression I'm getting from the fairly short (in my mind) recharge cycles.
Once arriving at said small person's abode, I was put to work encouraging healthy eating habits, tossing mini-trampoline looking Frisbees and providing motive force for multiple swings. I think it was the multiple swing powering that finally got me. Oof!
Fortunately, there was more than adequate power supply to return me to my abode. Unfortunately, dinner plans became other than planned because of the lateness of the hour and I broke down and did cheap chinese again. This time a bit too spicy for me curry chicken special.
Decided to pick up oatmeal raisin cookies, Ghirardelli 60% cacao chocolate squares and a box of honey graham crackers at the local mall grocery. (Who says I don't know how to eat right?) Also picked up the mail on the final loop home and spent most of the evening remaining on the the original Star Trek episode with Kodos the Executioner ("Conscience of the King") and a more recent vintage Stargate SG-1 ("Bounty") where the team gets set on by bounty hunters from around the galaxy.
Oh, yes. Much fun was had yesterday. More planned today.
