Go Rainbow Warriors!
Jan. 1st, 2008 09:09 amI only lived in Hawaii for a little over a half a year but still feel a linkage to it. I can only imagine how the state is wound up about this one.
Remembering the BSU-OU Fiesta Bowl game of last year is almost too much for this college football purist. Way better than any sappy Hollywood film could come up with. The improbable victory of the Broncos over an Adrian Peterson-powered Oklahoma was the real Rocky event. Finished with a Statue of Liberty play and a wedding proposal of all things. [annotated video for non-football fans] And now a word from the homeboy.
"Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory." - Hartley Burr Alexander (Memorial Stadium - Lincoln)
Hawaii (12-0) Hoping to Be This Year's Boise State - NY Times - 01 Jan 08
"Boise State’s upset of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl last season resonates as one of the most exciting and important games in college football history."
"But the game legitimized the fight for programs outside college football’s six power conferences to be included in the big-ticket bowl games. And the dividends of Boise State’s upset are being felt now, with Tuesday’s Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Hawaii perhaps the most anticipated game of the bowl season.
Hawaii (12-0) is the only undefeated team remaining in this most volatile of seasons. The Warriors have the Heisman Trophy finalist Colt Brennan and a wide-open offense that has allowed him to break 20 N.C.A.A. records in only three seasons."
