Now you know the real reason I'm so full of sweetness and light. :)

Happiness Index: Nebraska Nabs Top Spot - 06 Apr 09 - MainStreet.com

"The Cornhusker state was awarded the top ranking because:

* It ranked 2nd overall in lowest number of foreclosures
* It ranked 2nd in lowest unemployment rates
* It ranked 5th in lowest percentage of non-mortgage debt by income"

"Contrary to popular wisdom that densely populated urban areas of the country have 'recession-proof' housing markets and boast impressively high average salary ranges, The Happiness Index suggests that the Midwest is the main source of financial happiness. After Nebraska in the top spot, Iowa and Kansas came in at 2 and 3 on the list of the most financially happy states.

Other states did better than Nebraska in particular areas, but none had a higher blended average."

Lincoln does pretty good in the business and career rankings too.

Heh. Now if they could just do something about January and February weather, I'd REALLY be happy. Global warming on those months can't come too soon. :)

Yeah. Sounds like a state I'd love to visit. Don't know about the winter weather, though. I find it hard enough to survive up in the San Jacintos (6000 feet) where I have a weekend cabin!

If one can skip January and February, it's not too bad in general. Minding the occasional hotter than heck bit in the late summer early fall that is. Heat I don't mind so much as the cold.

This state never gets too high nor too low economically. That's the advantage AND disadvantage. There are few bubbles to burst as a result. But even bubbles can leave some pretty nice things if they are handled properly by the local government and/or by the occasional well-intended capitalists.

I don't know, everyone else I know living in Nebraska or Kansas isn't too happy about it. ;D

That's because they don't know what's good for them. :)

Actually the bad news is kind of the good news here. Not having a very dynamic economy pretty much prevents major bubbles from occurring. It's steady as it goes in good times and bad.

Not too high and not too low. Kind of an Obama approach one might say. :)
