Dig far enough into the past, you can come up with all kinds of stuff, but it is so old, and the parties have changed considerably. This is an easy ad to counter.

I dunno, Mark. One segment is from August 2007 during the Dem debates. The other was from "The Daily Show" in 2005. Those aren't exactly ancient history.

They are pre-conclusion of primary process. If he had chosen Hillary, there would have been a lot MORE material for such ads. The 2005 IS ancient history since it pre-dates the entire primary process.

Biden isn't perfect, which is why he never got far in the primary process, but tactically, in the face of political realities, he was a reasonable choice. Richardson or Sebelius would have presented too much change what with an African American headlining the ticket. Whites still constitute the vast majority of those who vote. Obama needs to get in, not just have a shot. McCain is loathsome, but kneejerkers would still elect him because he doesn't 'scare them' as much. Biden gives them a friendly face.

When Biden was vying for the nomination, he needed to emphasize his strengths and attack the others as flawed. Everyone knows the game. Obama's win demonstrates that Biden's criticism was ineffective. The people didn't buy it then, they aren't going to change their assessment now. All Biden has to do is say, "Obama has proved his ability over the last year" and it's done.

I hope you're right and people will be able to sort out the wheat from the chaff but they haven't been doing all that good of a job the last couple of elections so I remain a bit skeptical on that point.

McCain's ads are sophomoric.

Yes, but are they effective. :)

Therein lies the rub.
