No Mo' Joe
Nov. 13th, 2008 04:19 pmJoe Lieberman has been a dodgy Democrat ever since he played William F. Buckley's stalking horse to bump off one of the few remaining liberal Republicans, Lowell Weicker of Watergate fame.
Lieberman wasn't for that kind of "maverick".
Lieberman went into full dodgy bloom during the McCain campaign standing behind McCain during many of his speeches and giving presentations trashing Obama. This after Obama endorsed him during the last Democratic primary (that Lieberman lost). BTW, Lieberman's excuse for not supporting a Democrat was that no one asked him for his support and McCain did. That McCain went "mavericky" and picked Palin instead of him for the V.P. slot is some kind of weird justice.
Leaving Lieberman in his Senate chairmanship would give the green light to all the other folks who think it might be a good idea to do something similar in the future. I don't think that's really the kind of message that the Democrats want to be sending but it increasingly sounds like they may just do that in the spirit of "bipartisanship". Bah humbug.

And this just in from Politico. A few more names to remember if he survives.
Dem[ocrat] Senators Try to Save Lieberman - Politico - 12 Nov 08
"Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) are all involved in the effort, according to top Senate Democratic aides. These four senators — along with other Lieberman allies — are reaching out to the rest of the Democratic Senate caucus to try to ensure Lieberman survives a secret ballot vote on whether to strip him of his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee."
