With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] brashley46 for the not very politically correct trip down memory lane. Tom Terrific was a semi-regular cartoon short on the pioneering Captain Kangaroo children's show in the 1950s and 60s. I loved it. Now you know how our generation got so warped.

Put on that thinking cap! :)

Like I said earlier, straight out of The Onion. I can't stop laughing over this one. Sorry.

France: Radioactive Leak, Controls on 58 Reactors - Agenzia Italia - 17 Jul 08

"'It's all under control,' explains the Minister in the newspaper, 'but I want to be sure. I don't like the idea that people are thinking that we may be hiding something from them.' [SPEW!]

From 7 July, the day on which the [7,925 gallon] radioactive leak [into rivers] took place, the local authorities ordered the community not to drink water and not to eat fish from the local area; field irrigation was also prohibited, as well as swimming in contaminated waters and aquatic sports in general."

"Immediately after the accident in Tricastin, which is situated about 50 kilometers from Avignone, the Institute for Nuclear Security found a presence of uranium in the waters of four areas, which was higher than the normal levels: such level was not caused by the leak on 7 July. According to the survey which took place separately by a special commission, in effect, the contamination could be tied to a stocking of toxic refuse of military origins, which have been accumulated in an underground deposit near the nuclear plant from 1964 to 1976."
