I posted the recent reporting on the Friends of the Earth (UK) report by former Guardian reporter Paul Brown a few items back. Got the following response today from FoE regarding access to said document. I'm still a little amazed that they didn't have it available on the home page the day they released the report when the interest in it would be at a relative high. (Ah, if I ruled the world. At least it's done.) The PDF of the report can be downloaded here.

Obama Makes History as First African-American Presidential Nomination - CNN - 04 June 08

In related news, there was a report in the local paper on a statewide poll of how the McCain v. Obama race would play out. Nebraska is one of the few states that isn't winner-take-all. McCain is up 9 points statewide. However, in the first district (including Lincoln) McCain lead by one percentage point. In the second district (including Omaha) he led by five. In the conservative rest of western Nebraska, Obama was way behind.

Add out-going anti-war GOP Senator Chuck Hagel as a V.P. pick and Obama wins Nebraska. Also Obama wins with a much more likely Obama-Edwards v. McCain-Pawlenty combination. No Obama-Hillary combos tested this time around.

Thus in one of the reddest of the red states - a state that hasn't voted for a Democrat since LBJ in 1964 and went 2:1 for Bush over Kerry in 2004 - Obama is within striking distance of getting a 2-3 split in electoral votes. Nebraska Democrats went 2:1 for Obama in their caucus. Also a somewhat amazing result.

"I often wonder how this country's future energy policy might have been different if Harry Braun had been elected to Arizona's 1st Congressional District in November 1984 rather than his opponent. I had the privilege of working in Harry's congressional campaign nearly 24 years ago when he ran against a then first-term congressman named John McCain. Harry's campaign platform was complex but simple: Convert the United States to a hydrogen energy economy and turn Arizona into the 'Saudi Arabia of hydrogen energy.' As history reflects, and unfortunately for all of us, McCain, The Arizona Republic and a majority of voters in the 1st District would have none of Harry's hydrogen-energy 'nonsense' and McCain won in a landslide."

This Harry Braun name rang a bell. Sure enough, he's been promoting the late UMass Professor William Heronemus' offshore wind concepts.
