Tip o' the hat to all involved in nabbing the punks. One of the things I really like about this town and area. People will still come to your aid in a pinch.

Road Rage Incident - KOLN/KGIN - 04 Jun 08

"Police say 22 year old Ronnie Sabin and 23 year old Anthony Schulz cut in front of another car, pulled the driver out and beat him severely. The scene was chaos, the cause was even harder to understand. One man was sent to the hospital, two others were in handcuffs all, police say, because of road rage."

"Casey Minear was working nearby and witnessed the entire event, at first he thought it was an accident and then.... 'Through the back window we see one of the kids reaching through the window and just swinging on the guy in the cavalier, not just an accident, we called police.' Flood said 'One man actually jumped on the hood and did a flying roundhouse kick to the mans head. This dropped him to the ground. The 2 men subsequently bet him at least 3 times in the face.'

'A lot of people pulled over and helped, people pulled over with hazards on, standing in medians calling police, within minutes the cops were here and the kids were under arrest. No questions asked, too many witnesses saying kid in white and black were beating up that guy,' says Minear.

'This is a highly congested area [11th and Cornhusker Highway]. Several witnesses did witness the assault and came to the victims aid which was wonderful. One man actually put his car in position to block the parties responsible from leaving the scene.'"

And this from closer to my neck of the woods. Cindy and I were in a graduate sociology class many years back. She's a very good writer.

Cindy Lange-Kubick: Robbery Reward Shows President Truly Values Employees - Lincoln Journal-Star - 29 May 08

"The restaurant was robbed Saturday night and Don and Millie’s president had an announcement. Dean Rasmussen was offering $25,000 for the arrest and conviction of the two robbers.

Wow. $25,000. How cool was that? Anything with three zeroes is big bucks in my book.

At the Lincoln Police Department, they couldn’t recall the last time a local business offered a reward that large. Who was this guy?"

"'I don’t know if you’ve ever worked in a restaurant,” said Rasmussen, 'but it’s hard work and at the end of the day you’re tired and you want to go home.'

His employees did everything right, he said. They locked the restaurant. Walked out as a group. Followed the robbers’ orders.

Losing the money? That’s bad enough in the tight margins of food service, Rasmussen said. 'But what put me over the top was one of the guys hit one of my employees. That is totally unacceptable.'

Armed restaurant robberies are relatively rare in Lincoln. Two this year. One last year. Six the year before."
