"German Chancellor Angela Merkel's zeal for nuclear power rules out any prospects for a coalition between her Christian Democratic Union and the Green Party after next year's national election, senior Green Party members said.
'Merkel's party looks more and more like the parliamentary lobby for the nuclear industry,'' Cem Oezdemir, one of two candidates vying to be elected co-chairman of the Green Party at a Nov. 14-16 convention, said today in an interview. ``We don't even need to think about an alliance under such circumstances.'
Germany is committed to phasing out nuclear power by 2021 under an agreement forged by the previous government of Social Democrats and Greens.
