Here we go folks! How low will McCain-Palin and the GOP go? (Answer: Steroid-laden Olympic world record low. Just win baby!)

Does the Truth Matter Anymore? - E.J. Dionne - Washington Post - 10 Sep 08

"They keep talking about Sarah Palin’s opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere without any embarrassment over the fact that she once supported it. They keep saying that Barack Obama will raise taxes, suggesting he’d raise them on everybody, when Obama’s plan, according to the Tax Policy Institute, would cut taxes for 'about 80 percent of households' while 'only about 10 percent would owe more.' And as Sebastian Mallaby pointed out in his recent column, Obama would cut taxes for middle-income taxpayers 'more aggressively' than McCain would.

And now comes a truly vile McCain ad accusing Obama of supporting legislation to offer 'comprehensive sex education' to kindergartners."

"As a state senator in Illinois, Obama did vote for but was not a sponsor of legislation dealing with sex ed for grades K-12. But the legislation allowed local school boards to teach 'age-appropriate' sex education, not comprehensive lessons to kindergartners, and it gave schools the ability to warn young children about inappropriate touching and sexual predators.

Is McCain against teaching little kids to beware of sexual predators?"

Ad in question behind cut . . . )

Riding to the rescue of the poor misunderstood McCain-Palin ticket is Sen. Jim Demint (Republican - South Carolina) in the Wall Street Journal opinion section.

Yes, Palin Did Stop That Bridge - WSJ - 10 Sep 08

"Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation's budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions."

So she saved the taxpayers millions, eh? How do you do that when you keep the money appropriated and use it on non-bridge transportation projects?

CNN also points to the next spin cycle on this one. Don't worry, it will soon be a "different" bridge.

Palin Backed "Bridge to Nowhere", Then Opposed It - CNN - 09 Sep 08

"Her office canceled work on the span in 2007 after it became a symbol of congressional 'pork-barrel' excess, but kept money that Congress had appropriated for the project, using the funds instead for state transportation projects."

"A former aide said Palin turned against the $223 million Gravina Island bridge when the original price nearly doubled. 'It was a different bridge when she was a candidate than the bridge when she became governor,' Meg Stapleton said."

In the end, I'm expecting the technique that Robert Morris recommended to Walter Matthau in that classic movie "The Guide for the Married Man" (1967) to be utilized by the McCain-Palin camp.

One of my less used laptops had the anti-virus go out of date on it. So I went looking for a freebie version to download and that took me to the download.com website and the free version of AVG anti-virus. I've found AVG anti-virus to be the best of the free anti-viruses out there especially if you tweak it a bit. But something unexpected happened.

On the download page it had an option to upgrade to the full commercial version of AVG if you just tried one of the free offers that the company TrialPay.com was promoting. So I forgot about the free AVG and went for the full along with a trial subscription to eMusic.com. They gave me 25 free tunes and 1 audiobook and a week or two to give them a try respectively. I later got a link and registration code for the anti-virus download.

So new tunes from: Gustav Mahler (San Francisco Symphony & Michael Tilton Thomas), Candy Dulfer, Steve Roach, Fela Kuti, Mark Ciaburri, Jimi Hendrix and Röyksopp. Originally I was heading towards some Biosphere but that got sidetracked.

The audiobook was the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as read by Steven Fry. 5.8 hours worth. Very excellent.
