Taking corporate-friendly self-delusion to a whole new level. "Uneven playing field"? How twisted is that?

All 3 U.S. Presidential Candidates Back Nuclear Power - IHT - 07 May 08

"John McCain embraces it. Barack Obama wants to address its flaws. Hillary Clinton is cautious but not opposed."

"A McCain adviser, [economist and former head of the Congressional Budget Office under Bush, Jr.] Douglas Holtz-Eakin, said nuclear power faced an 'uneven playing field' after years of political opposition. 'Senator McCain would eliminate the political obstacles that hinder nuclear power, allow it to compete more effectively, and likely increase its share of the U.S. energy portfolio,' Holtz-Eakin said."

Both the Dems are against more federal subsidies (or "leveling the playing field" in McCainSpeak) which is good enough for me. No federal largess, no nukes.

More low life crp from McCain. Perhaps this is the source of the concern noted by a self-described middle aged white Democratic nurse in Indiana interviewed on a C-SPAN call-in the other day. She noted she was concerned about Obama's links to terrorist organizations and thus was voting for Hillary. WTF?

Hard to be certain of the linkage of that observation since Obama is also being connected by conservative politicos with the Weather Underground via Bill Ayers. And let's not forget his Louis Farrakan links. I'm waiting to find that he's also related to John Wilkes Booth and Leon Czolgosz any day now.

The spirit of Donald Segretti, Lee Atwater and Karl Rove is alive and well in the Republican party.

You could also argue, it's it's actually true, Hamas made supportive comments for Obama because they know that this will work against him politically. Perhaps they may want "muscular" McCain who will keep the conflict going and their supporters motivated. This would not be unlike how the Bush administration, through their blundering policies in Iraq, generated a renaissance for Al-Qaeda.

McCain on "The Daily Show" With John Stewart - ABCNews Blog - 07 May 08

"Comedian Jon Stewart, the show’s host, asked McCain about comments he had made that Hamas, which controls the Gaza strip in Israel and which the United States government considers a terrorist organization, had endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

'Do you feel bad that you said that?' Stewart asked McCain.

McCain indicated that he did not, because a spokesman for Hamas in the United States had said that the group was hoping Obama would be elected president. 'I think they think I’m their worst nightmare,' McCain said. 'And I think that I’m their worst nightmare as well.'"

On a bit more positive note. These megawatts are installed in a couple of years not a decade or more. Global warming timelines anyone?

Siemens Gets Large Wind Turbine Order from FPL - CNN Money - 08 May 08

"Siemens will deliver to FPL Energy 218 of its 2.3-MW wind turbines in 2009 with a total capacity of approximately 500 MW - enough to provide clean power to approximately 150,000 households. Together with this order, Siemens has received $2.4 billion in wind turbine orders in the U.S. to date this fiscal year.

The blades for the units will be manufactured at the new production facility in Iowa, which was opened in 2007. To support the growth in the world's largest market for clean wind power, Siemens will expand this factory, located in the town of Fort Madison. 'This expansion will double our production capacity in Iowa and will create more than 200 new green collar jobs in the U.S.,' added Umlauft.

More reports tumbling out of Greenpeace.

Greenpeace Calls Carbon Capture Retrofit to Power Plant a Scam - Times-Republican - 08 May 08 [includes graphic]

"In a report released this week, Greenpeace dismissed carbon capture and storage as a viable solution to combat global warming.

A future retrofit of Marshalltown’s new coal-fired power plant to capture carbon dioxide emissions and store them underground was one of the possibilities reserved by the Iowa Utilities Board in their April 30 approval of the project. But the international activist organization says such technology is unproven and expensive — ultimately an excuse to build new coal-fired power plants, which are claimed to be the single largest contributor to global warming."

"The report, 'False Hope: Why Carbon Capture and Storage Won’t Save the Climate,' [PDF] instead calls on governments to invest in clean and proven energy technologies like wind and solar."

NASA Climatologist: Coal Plant Would be "Waste of Money" - Cedar Rapids Gazette - 09 Jan 08

"James Hansen, an Iowa native who heads NASA's Goddard Space Center in Manhattan, is expected to testify as a private citizen before the Iowa Utilities Board next week in opposition to Alliant Energy's proposed Marshalltown power plant.

'It would be a tremendous waste of money to put money into coal-fired power plants at this time, because it has become clear that we're going to need to phase out coal use where it is not possible to capture and sequester the carbon dioxide,' Hansen said. Coal plants being constructed now will never be able to fill out their useful lives because the government will be forced to regulate them out of existence, Hansen said."

Clinton Touts Support From "White Americans" - CNN Political Ticker - 08 May 08

"In what appear to be the New York senator's most blunt comments to date regarding a racial division in the Democratic presidential race, Hillary Clinton suggested Wednesday that 'White Americans' are increasingly turning away from Barack Obama’s candidacy."

And this report is even worse sounding.

Hillary Clinton Accused of Playing Race Card - Telegraph (UK) - 08 May 08

"Hillary Clinton has said that Barack Obama’s support from 'hard-working Americans, white Americans' was 'weakening', stoking fears that she is using race to damage her rival’s chances of a general election victory. Her controversial comments, which some construed as a suggestion that blacks are lazy, came as several allies counselled her to consider withdrawing from a Democratic nomination contest she cannot win."

Again my earlier question, if Obama ends up losing the general election, does Hillary Clinton replace Ralph Nader as the favorite hate object of losing Democrats?
