Edward Mazria was a pioneer in passive solar energy developments in the 1970s writing one of the classic references on that technology, "The Passive Solar Energy Book" (Rodale Press, 1979). I think more than a few architects have been good with going green for some time now but unfortunately their customers are not so much inclined. Interesting videos and posters on this site.

Architecture 2030 - Climate Change, Global Warming, and the Built Environment

"Architecture 2030, a non-profit, non-partisan and independent organization, was established in response to the global-warming crisis by architect Edward Mazria in 2002. 2030’s mission is to rapidly transform the US and global Building Sector from the major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions to a central part of the solution to the global-warming crisis. Our goal is straightforward: to achieve a dramatic reduction in the global-warming-causing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the Building Sector by changing the way buildings and developments are planned, designed and constructed."

Of related interest, "Post Carbon Cities".

"This website provides a valuable set of resources on energy and climate change, designed specifically for the people who work with and for local governments."

Two lovely items on this topic. I'm feeling in good company at the moment.

Lukashenka: All Those Who Are Against Nuclear Power Station are "Enemies of the People" - Charter'97 - Belarusian News - 27 Apr 08

"Alyaksandr Lukashenka has expresses an intention to clamp down on political speculations concerning the project to build Belarusian nuclear power station harshly. Speaking about the opponents of the idea to construct a nuclear power station, A. Lukashenka stated that 'they are not simply political intriguers, but enemies of our nation'."

And this just in from the plants in India that gave us the "Peaceful Atomic Bomb".

Indian nuke stuff . . . )

Oinker coverage (as seems to be the case with Ms. Berry and the Independent) but coverage none the less. A snippet of particular interest from a much longer piece (worth a read beyond the tone). The Greens seem sensibly changing to a more traditional form of leadership and structure so as voters will take them a bit more seriously. Something for several of the Green Party groupings in the USA to consider, seriously.

Sian Berry: Will the Woman Described as 'Environmental Viagra' Turn Us On to the Green Party? - The Independent (UK) - 27 Apr 08

"But the Green Party has had many false dawns. Berry herself is reminiscent of Sara Parkin, a prominent figure in the party in the 1980s (along with David Icke, before the lizards got him). Could they really be about to turn the corner this time? 'Well, we recently voted for a new party constitution,' says Berry, 'which means we will be electing a leader for the first time.' This will help the party's profile enormously, I suggest. 'The press will like it, won't they?' she concedes. 'They love a good leadership contest.'

She thinks a sea change is due at the next parliamentary election. 'There are three constituencies where we should get in. The last election was too early.' The party has since acquired some big names in Peter Tatchell (candidate for Oxford East) and MEP Caroline Lucas (candidate for Brighton Pavilion). And they have Sian. Lovely Sian, once described as 'environmental Viagra'. Committed Sian, who set up the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s, publicising the cause with spoof parking tickets and fancy-dress protests. Sensible Sian, who went to Pate's grammar school in Cheltenham (where both her parents taught) and has an engineering degree from Oxford. Clean-slate Sian, who claims to have had no political affiliation before joining the Green Party six years ago, aged 27. Is she too good to be true?"
