Giant E-Bike Over Birmingham (UK)
Apr. 19th, 2008 11:20 amIt's a beautiful day in Lincoln and I intend on giving the battery and my legs a workout today.
New discovery. One dollar for one night vended DVD rentals at Redbox.com. The first one was a freebie thanks to a promotion the local Hy-Vee grocery story was having. The big red Internet connected distribution box is located in their entryway. Will this be the end of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video? Probably.
"There Will Be Blood" was the choice. Daniel Day-Lewis definitely deserved the Oscar for that one. Likewise the Oscar for Robert Elswit's cinematography. Grindingly intense. Now I'm going to have to get a copy of former Robert Heinlein-supported 1934 California gubernatorial candidate Upton Sinclair's "Oil" (1927).
Yet another adventurous soul finds the addictive fun of e-biking it. Giant is big on e-bikes. They've already been noted for some classic designs in this field.

"BIKE for £1,000? That's £100 more than my first new car cost me! OK, it was in 1973. That was my first thought as I took the gleaming Giant Twist 2.0 electric bicycle on test from Bike-Pro [Racing] at Kings Heath, Birmingham."
"Welcome to the Flat Earth Society, where every uphill is seemingly levelled out with the aid of the almost-silent motor and the super-slick, seven-speed Shimano gearing."
"[R]unning costs are said to be about 5p a mile compared with a car's 50p. Nevertheless, I'm missing the Giant Twist already. A five-mile (8km), 40-minute commute from New Street station to the Birmingham Mail's future HQ at The Fort, was cut to 25 minutes. Suddenly, £1,000 seems a bargain for such a beautifully made, well-equipped machine."
