I'm sure some of you heard this report on NPR this morning.  It's reporting that Florida legislation has allowed for the risk and cost of nuclear plant development to be pushed onto the ratepayers years before a single kWH is produced. If ever.

U.S. Gives Nuclear Power a Second Look - NPR - 28 Mar 08

"Progress Energy spokesman Buddy Eller says that because of those high costs, if it weren't for the Florida law, passed in 2006, his firm wouldn't have considered the project."

I've never liked these guys.  Was even less liking it when they bought out Macromedia (that should never have been allowed for anti-trust reasons) and took Dreamweaver along with them.  Then they munged the link and/or server for the version I had so that it couldn't do auto-updates.  Unfortunately, now that it has near monopoly status, and I need to upgrade or move completely away from Dreamweaver, I'm facing paying them yet more money.

It's hard to think of a company that sucks more than Microsoft in such areas but I think Adobe has gotten there now.

Photoshop Express: All Your Images Are Belong to Us - Wired - 28 Mar 08

"Adobe recently launched Photoshop Express, the company's new online photo editing and sharing service, but as savvy readers have pointed out, to use Express you need to agree to terms of service that appear to grant Adobe the 'worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive, perpetual, irrevocable' right to do basically whatever it wants with your images."

From the "You Can't Make Stuff Like This Up" file.  If you want guilty by association, let's go for it!

Hillary's Rev. Jeremiah Wright is Richard Melon Scaife - Slate - 25 Mar 08

"What the hell is Clinton doing meeting with reporters and editors of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review? The Tribune-Review is a money-losing fringe publication published by Richard Mellon Scaife, a bilious and wealthy crank who spent the 1990s manufacturing vile innuendo about the Clintons. If the 'vast, right-wing conspiracy' on which first lady Hillary Clinton famously blamed her troubles can be said to exist, its chairman and chief executive officer was Scaife."

"She is free, of course, to associate with whomever she pleases. But she is not free, while paddling the sewers with Scaife, to judge Obama publicly for belonging to Wright's church. Compared with Scaife, Wright is St. Francis of Assisi."

Reminds me of those flying assassination needles from "Dune".  Or the little snooper bugs in "The Fifth Element".

Dragonfly or Insect Spy?  Scientists at Work on Robobugs - Washington Post -  9 Oct 07

"Vanessa Alarcon saw them while working at an antiwar rally in Lafayette Square last month.

'I heard someone say, 'Oh my god, look at those,' ' the college senior from New York recalled. 'I look up and I'm like, 'What the hell is that?' They looked kind of like dragonflies or little helicopters. But I mean, those are not insects.'"
