Eat, Gas, Now
Feb. 15th, 2008 11:50 amIf you're looking for some new computer or entertainment hardware, this Epson sale might be of some interest. Up to 60% off, free ground shipping, yada yada. I spent way too much time late last night dealing with software purchases. To purchase or not to purchase. That is the question.
Found out that I still qualified for a "reasonably" priced upgrade of my increasingly ancient Macromedia Studio MX Suite to the latest Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium package. Just short of a mere $600 but it does have all the big guns of Adobe web software along with InDesign. That's a deal compared to the non-upgrade price (gulp!).
On the "this may be good enough" side, I installed increasingly ancient but still functional WordPerfect Office Suite 8 - Legal Edition on a lark last night. This one had a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking with it (which doesn't seem to work on XP, at least not yet - rats) which I'd hoped would work out on this "superior" hardware platform. It's a lot snappier than OpenOffice so I might find myself using it for future writing activities. Maybe I'll re-install the software with the Amicus Attorney stuff which looks like it has some useful office management tools (in hindsight).
I found there's an active newsgroup for Corel software at news://cnews.corel.ca/ which was encouraging for those a bit put off by the lack of third party support in terms of books and such for some of their products.
Originally I was looking at Corel Ventura 10 as a desktop publishing upgrade option (I have Adobe Pagemaker 5 which is fossilized). Sounds like it's not bad for long technical books even if it's a bit long in the tooth itself and perhaps defacto orphanware. A quick search on Ventura pulled up a lot of references (mostly computer books) where the books had been put together using Ventura. Some of very recent mintage so it must still be used.
Regarding Valentine's Day. I went for three Hersey Almond bars that were on sale at the Sunmart last night. Happy VD to me.
They are all gone now. :)
Speaking of big days, Happy BD to
