If homeboy Warren Buffett and/or his associates think it's a bad idea perhaps it's not just a hippy eco-freak problem, eh?   Due diligence.  Not a term commonly used with nuclear energy, imo. 

FWIW, I met Bill Fehrman when he was the head of NPPD.  He came to the Nebraska State Energy Office to meet with all the local wind folks regarding Community-Based Energy Development (C-BED).  Very sharp guy.  He green-lighted the Ainsworth, Nebraska wind farm.  Buffett hired him away to run part of MidAmerican.

"A spokesman for MidAmerican said Tuesday the company informed local elected officials of its decision on Jan. 25, posted the notice on its Web site and sent letters to Payette County residents.  'Consumers expect reasonably priced energy, and the company's due diligence process has led to the conclusion that it does not make economic sense to pursue the project at this time,' Bill Fehrman, President of MidAmerican Nuclear Energy Co, said in the letter to Payette County residents."
