Hats off to my friends down in Oz!  Now W, and the GOP Wannabes, and Harper to go.

What to do about pseudo-conservative Brown though?

Of course, we'll have our own triangulation problems if Hillary gets in.  At least all of them give lip service to global warming.  Even nuclear powered Sarko who seems to be in his own special category these days.

Labor Party Wins Australia Election - LA Times - 24 Nov 07

"Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd swept to power in Australian elections today, ending an 11-year conservative era and promising major changes to policies on global warming and the Iraq war.

The win brought a humiliating end to the career of outgoing Prime Minister John Howard of the Liberal Party, who became Australia's second-longest serving leader -- and who had appeared almost unassailable as little as a year ago."

And now a word from South Africa's press. Van Leeuwen's work is controversial to say the least. This might account for it not getting much play in the mainstream press.

The Real Cost of Power - The Times (SA) - 24 Nov 07

In his latest nuclear report last month, Jan Willem Storm van Leeuwen, senior scientist at the Netherlands-based Ceedata Consultancy, said nuclear power systems were not an option as they produced more carbon dioxide than fossil-fuelled power stations.   'More uranium ore has to be processed each year to feed one nuclear power plant than the annual coal tonnage of coal consumed by a coal-fired power plant to generate the same amount of electricity,' he said.   Once started, a nuclear reactor generates unavoidable and very large amounts of radioactive waste, posing immeasurable risks to man and society, he said."
