The weirdest college football season ever.  Maybe we can blame it on global warming too.  They are certainly banging the stops in a similar way.  All the more reason to bring defensive genius Bo Pelini from LSU back to Nebraska, imo.

Had a fun time talking football at a family gathering the other day.  Folks are all over the road on what happens with the coaching at Nebraska after the Colorado game (11 am, ABC, Nov. 23).  That last matchup is looking to be a dandy in Boulder.

This Season Becoming More Defenseless by the Minute - Star-Telegram - 12 Nov 07

"Driving back from Oklahoma on Sunday, I passed Fouts Field in Denton. The facility was still standing. There were no wisps of smoke, no tire tracks on the turf that would have been clues to the college football game disguised as a drag race.  Navy 74, North Texas 62 no doubt caused some confusion when it scrolled across the bottom of television screens Saturday night -- 'Is that a basketball score?'

No, but the hoops comparison is appropriate. 'Basketball on grass' is the best way to describe the spread offenses that are designed to create one-on-one matchups. The offensive advantage is like Mark Mangino trying to guard Steve Nash.  At midseason, scoring trends pointed to 2007 as being the most offensive year in college football history. Defensive coordinators are seeking counseling."

"Nebraska had perhaps the most stunning scoreboard reversal in college football history.  A week after giving up a school-record 76 points to Kansas, the Huskers defeated Kansas State 73-31.  Since 1929, Nebraska had scored 70 or more points nine times. The most points the Huskers have given up prior to going over 70 was 38."
