More from the "You can't make this stuff up" file.  On a secondary line of thought, isn't it interesting watching politicos pick and choose what kind of repressive government is acceptable to do business with and what kind are not and the amount of impotent bluster associated with some of those comments.  At times it's truly amazing.

For example, remember when North Korea absolutely positively could not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon?   And now, narry a word.

Dalai Lama Says His Successor Could be Chosen by Unorthodox Method - VOA News - 17 Oct 07

"The Dalai Lama says his successor could be chosen among a group of senior monks, rather than through the centuries-old tradition of reincarnation.  In an interview with VOA, the Tibetan spiritual leader said his successor could be chosen like the Pope, or he may decide to declare his own successor while he is still alive.

Chinese authorities issued a new regulation in July 2007 that requires all reincarnations - including the Dalai Lama - to be approved by the government."
