Regarding personal epiphanies, the current Ken Burn's series on WWII ("The War") has had a surprisingly significant impact on my own view of the world and my place in it.

The War - PBS.org

The series was based on a Studs Terkel style of "mere mortals doing epic things" with only occasional references to the power elite (often negative).

The story of the small town starry-eyed Minnesotan who made his way through hell and back as a combat pilot was particularly moving for me. It has helped to provide some added perspective on the nature of existence and how to spend one's time while in this state.  This bio link is a sterile report on Mr. Aanenson compared to the interviews themselves.

Once again the regulatory agency has become a promotional agency.  The original split of the AEC into the NRC and the ERDA/DOE was supposed to help stop that kind of dangerous garbage but it's back with a vengeance.

A goodly amount of wind bashing provided by Sen. Lamar Alexander from TVA land for good measure.  Only Senator Bernie Sanders seemed half way firm on nukes being a bad idea.  All the Democrats were in "reasonable" to "enthusiast" mode.

The second panel including a dissenting David Lockbaum from the Union of 'Concerned Scientists starts about two hours into the session.  Lockbaum was the only voice providing any opposition.

Mind your lunch.
