Apr. 7th, 2007 09:59 amIt's the investigating power of Congress which is the best thing about having the Dems back in control. The downside is that they (along with the "liberal" corporate press) will now be the excuse for why the Iraq war has cratered.
The only thing that might save that mess at this late stage would be a military draft, about 300,000 pairs of boots on the ground and rebooting the Iraq constitution ala Japan ("sign here, Emperor"). On this last point, removing the section that allows cabinet members to block investigations would be a good starting point with the current document.
Of course, none of this is going to happen even if McCain gets in power. But I digress....
