Movie Night
Mar. 5th, 2007 09:51 pmToday went a little different than the original plan which is to say that it was pretty normal. Lots of melting snow and ice and lots of ugly left over stuff. Still I did manage to make it downtown to pay my electric bill, check out the used bookstore and get some stuff done on The Coffeehouse wifi system before heading home.
Didn't feel up for much tonight so I looked through the pile of new used DVDs I had in stock. The local Hollywood Video store has used ones at 4 for $20 and, with the end of the second run theater in town, that's been my film fix option. Usually I can find four that I'm not too embarrassed to buy. (That's more of a challenge than it should be, imo.)
Decided to go with the much heralded but potentially pretty depressing, "The Sea Inside" (or "Mar adentro"). It won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2004. The lead was an Oscar nominee, Javier Bardem. Spanish with subtitles.
It's a powerful film about an engaging, funny and worldly man who has been a long-time quadriplegic and wants to end his life legally. Says it was "Based on a True Story."
Not many films that can make me weepy but this one did the trick. A very excellent piece of work. More than worthy of an Oscar nod or two.
